Our journey towards a sustainable transportation future is dependent on the electrification of transportation – the transition away from fossil-burning internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles. It is also dependent on the adoption of practices that will reduce the need for private vehicles (reduction of Vehicle Miles Traveled). These practices include the adoption of non-motorized vehicles, mass transit, changes that minimize the need to drive (remote work and self-contained communities are examples).
Another strategy is shared mobility or mobility-as-a-service. We see variations of this today with rideshares like Uber, Lyft, taxicabs, and Holoholo (a local newcomer), and car rental services like Turo. These services allow users to avail themselves of transportation services without having to own and maintain the vehicles. You can learn about two variations of this service model in Hawaii EV’s Talk Story event this Saturday, July 31, 10 AM – 11 AM HST.
Andy Huang of Envoy (envoythere.com) will be sharing information about this company’s “Mobility as an Amenity” offering. This service might be an ideal mobility solution for condo associations, hotels, resorts, and other entities that could benefit from a fleet of EVs that can be accessed when needed by residents, clients, and customers. Join us to learn how a mobility service might be the perfect alternative to owning an electric car.
Benson Medina, Senior Investment Development Partner at Sustainability Partners (sustainability.partners), will be providing an update on the effort to accelerate Hawaii’s progress to a clean energy future. Are you wondering about the new EVs that State employees are driving around in? Curious about how “Infrastructure as a Service” might offer us a way to hasten the decarbonization of our State’s fleet? Join us to learn.
Here’s the Hawaii EV report. It includes a summary of the discussion and a link to the recording.
