Support for Lower Puna
The eruption of Kilauea and its impact on Puna prevented us from hosting our May meet-up, something that was to be held in Pahoa town. With evacuations underway and tensions high, it made sense to cancel.
We have a few EV owners who live in the lower Puna area and are impacted by the Kilauea eruption. I’ve been pondering how we can provide support beyond the donations of money, goods, and personal time. One thing that comes to mind is to open our home charging stations to EV owners who are affected by the disaster. You can accomplish this by adding your station to Plugshare.com. You’ll need an account to add your station. Here’s a screenshot from Plugshare showing some of the residential stations in east Hawaii. They are the blue icons (the green ones are commercial Level 2s; the orange ones are Fast Chargers.)
If you have ideas on how we can support affected EV owners or you’re an affected EV owner who needs a hand, please contact me directly at nmorin99@yahoo.com.
Upcoming Coffee and EV Meet-up – June 2!
Coffee and EV Meet-up – Kimobean Hawaiian Coffee (Shops at Mauna Lani). This event will be held from 9-11 (longer than usual). We hope to have newer EVs (Tesla Model 3 and Nissan LEAF) at this event so that members can view and get their questions addressed. If you have either of these vehicles and are able to participate, please contact me at 808-987-7428.
Importantly, our Hawaii Drive Electric partners will be participating. They are seeking to interview EV owners who are willing to share their experiences. I hope that many of you will step up and share your experiences. The interviews will be used to help raise public awareness and, hopefully, get more EVs on our roads.

$3000 Rebate on the Nissan LEAF – Ending Soon!
We recently called attention to the $3000 Rebate on Nissan LEAF. If you’re in the market for the 2018 LEAF, take advantage of this rebate. It ends June 30, 2018.
Charging Stations
The Hawaii County charging stations at 101 Pauahi St in Hilo (Kilauea Avenue side of the county building). were out-of-order for a lengthy period. We visited the stations yesterday and were able to use both. The right-side station has a cloudy display screen but was usable. There is a 2-hour parking limit at these stations and they are free to use.
