I recently came across the following article from Alt Energy Stocks. It provides good information regarding home EV charging stations.
While you can plug into a 110v outlet for home charging, it will be very sluggish. Upgrading to a Level 2 (240v) station allows you to maximize the experience and utility of your EV. Level 2 stations have come down in price from over $1000 when the LEAF first came out – prices today can be half of this. They are also readily available – they can be purchased at Home Depot, Amazon, and eBay.
I should note that many EVs come with portable chargers and you may even avoid having to purchase a station altogether if you get a 240v outlet installed in your garage. (This outlet is similar to what your electric clothes dryer uses.) The portable charger that comes with your EV can plug into this 240 outlet for a faster charge.
Lastly, some EV owners can manage with a regular 110v outlet. If your EV has a large battery (Tesla, Chevy Bolt) and/or your daily driving distances are really short, you might be able to get by without a Level 2 charger.
