The 2019 Legislative Session has been a disappointment for those seeking a more aggressive response to our climate crisis and concrete measures towards our renewable energy goals. BeyondKona recently published an article that summarizes the relevant outcomes of the session – Forces Inside and Outside Hawai’i Shape the State’s Climate Future. It highlights the small wins (and the losses or lost opportunities) from the session. It also hints at the opportunity that we have to help educate, empower, and influence our representatives so that the next session is more productive. Importantly, it includes information on measures that impact electric vehicle adoption.
If the 2018 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Report holds true, we have a little over a decade to mitigate a catastrophic climate crisis so we must act with urgency. We must do more to escalate our transition to a clean energy future, i.e., shift to renewable energy and non-fossil fuel burning transportation, and increase energy efficiency and conservation.
