April 30 UPDATE: According to HELCO employees, the Fast Chargers at the Kona and Hilo offices will be officially open at the end of May. We are working with them so that our association can participate in the launch activities.

As reported previously, Hawaiian Electric Light Company (HELCO) has installed Level 3 stations at their Hilo and Kona offices. We’re waiting for the official HELCO launch announcement. However, Eric Hayden (our West Hawaii Advisor) drove by the Kona location today and found  that the Level 3 station was operational.  He even plugged in to confirm!

The station will charge a flat fee of $7-$8, depending on time of use (come ‘thirsty’).

We’ve reached out to HELCO representatives for the official status of this and the Hilo station and will provide an update once we hear back.
