Pahoa Recreation Center Charger

This is brief update on the status of some of our charging stations, based on recent reports and check-ins.

• Home Depot (Hilo) – Operable. This popular level 2 station is operational again. (It was reported as being inoperable a couple of weeks ago.)
• Costco – Invisible. This is another popular level 2 station. For reasons still unknown, Costco management requested that the charging station be hidden in the Plugshare and SemaConnect apps. This station is operational. You’ll need to call the 800# on the station or use the RFID/Smart card from SemaConnect to charge at this station. If you’re traveling a long distance to Costco and expect to charge there, call Costco ahead at 808-331-4800 to confirm availability of the station. Feel free to express how the lack of mobile access impacts planning for shopping trips.
• Hawaii County Offices on Kilauea Ave. in Hilo – Inoperable. These level 2 stations are still not working. The last we heard about this is that the equipment was faulty and that they are negotiating with the supplier or manufacturer.
• Pahoa Recreation Center – More plugs needed. This is a very popular station with our Puna members. The challenge is that there is only one plug and there can be a queue. Members have reached out to county officials but have not heard any commitment for action. If you have ideas on how we can expand the infrastructure in this area, please let us know.
