You can own an EV!
New technology is often expensive and priced beyond the means for many. We witnessed this with EVs. The first Tesla vehicles were priced at over $100,000. The first-generation LEAF was close to $40,000. Thankfully, battery innovations and economies of scale have resulted in more affordable new EVs. New Teslas can be purchased for under $40,000. The Kia Niro, another popular EV, can be purchased for even less with the Federal Tax credit considered.
The prices of new EVs will continue to drift down as competing offerings arrive from several manufacturers and as battery technology improves further.
Even more affordable EVs!
It’s important to note that pre-owned EVs are now plentiful and very affordable. Many are vehicles that are still under warranty and will offer many years of hassle-free driving. EVs have fewer moving parts that can wear down and are easier and cheaper to maintain. Pre-owned EVs may be found at local dealerships as well as on Craigslist Hawaii. Here are sample listings from Craigslist.

Caveat Emptor!
If you’re dealing with a private sale, investigate the car thoroughly and take the usual precautions. For instance, insist on an inspection even if you must pay for the service. This will ensure that you know the state of the electronics and the battery. Be sure to personally inspect and drive the car.
If you buy a Tesla Certified Pre-Owned vehicle, you may be provided with a warranty. Be sure to ask for one.
