Did you know that workers with access to plug-in electric vehicle charging at work are six times more likely to drive electric than the average commuter? This is just one of the many reasons why the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) runs an initiative called the Workplace Charging Challenge aimed at growing workplace charging access America.
Today over 250 employers have signaled their commitment to provide workplace charging to their employees by signing on as partners to the Challenge. If you currently have workplace charging and your employer hasn’t been recognized, let DOE know! You can check out the full list of partner employers here. To get signed up, you can email the Challenge Coordinator, Sarah Olexsak, at WorkplaceCharging@ee.doe.gov (please provide her with a good contact at your worksite who is in charge of managing your workplace charging program).
Would you like access to workplace charging but your employer hasn’t yet installed it? Check out some of the great resources on the DOE website to get your employer started. For example, you can help your employer assess employee charging demand by distributing an employee survey or check out available charging station incentives (the federal tax credit for charging stations was just reinstated!), or give your employer a copy of DOE’s PEV Handbook for Workplace Charging Hosts. Many more great resources are available in the “Install and Manage Workplace Charging” section of DOE’s website. You may also want to consider ways to help your employer engage staff and promote driving electric at your workplace!
I hope you will consider supporting this initiative. Please contact Sarah Olexsak at WorkplaceCharging@ee.doe.gov with any questions regarding the Challenge.
