Our June 2 Coffee and EV event at Kimobean Hawaiian Coffee and the Shops at Mauna Lani was successful. The concern about the Ironman marathon traffic held some people back but we had a decent flow of people a mix of local and visitors. (The drive to the resort was actually very smooth. I made it from Hilo in a little over an hour.) We had very nice weather – sunny but breezy. It made for a great meet-up.
We had a nice selection of EVs – Nissan LEAF, Tesla Model S, Chevy Bolt, Tesla Model X, and VW e-Golf. We parked our cars in the courtyard and got the attention of people visiting the Shops. Unfortunately, we were not able to get a Model 3 to this event. (We hope to at the next one.)
Highlights:
- Club members Rick, Stephanie, Sharon, John, and Jared entertained questions from the public.
- Doug, our founder, dropped in for a chat. We look forward to his engagement in our future events.
- Jared, John, and I interviewed with our friends from Drive Electric Hawaii. Marcus and Noreen flew in from Honolulu to join our event. (Thanks, guys!)
- The questions raised during our meet-up highlighted the need for more education about electric cars – EV benefits, cost to acquire and operate, charging procedures, and choices that are now available to Hawaii residents.
Thank you to all who made this a successful event: Rick, Jared, John, Sharon, Stephanie, Sean, Noreen, and Marcus. Special thanks to Rick for organizing.
– Noel
