The Chevy Bolt is one of Hawaii’s highly anticipated electric cars. Its pricing (low $30k after tax credit) and 200+ mile range make it ideal for many in Hawaii.  While Chevy’s roll-out plan calls for Hawaii deliveries in the second half of this year, some of our residents have resorted to purchasing their Bolts from mainland dealers to avoid the wait – we’re aware of two members who have done this. In fact, one Bolt has been delivered!

The proud and satisfied owners – Robert and Karla – received their new Bolt a few days ago, one that was purchased from a Chevy dealer in California. Robert has expressed satisfaction with their new EV.  He shared with us the vehicle’s range efficiency – on a commute from Volcano to Honokaa, it “… only used 40 miles of the car’s 240 mile battery range, with climate control on and otherwise driving the car like an ICE (with the exception of using the paddle regeneration instead of brake pedal)!”

Robert was kind enough to share pictures of their new Bolt (below). He’s also accepted our request to check out the car up close and learn more about the driving experience. We will be sharing additional details in an upcoming article.

For those who are waiting for Bolts to show up at local dealerships, expect to wait until June or later. De Luz Chevrolet is apparently getting in on the action (in addition to Oahu dealerships). Cody Osborne (BIEVA Secretary) is investigating details surrounding sales and service of the Bolt and will be reporting his findings soon.

Importantly, members Chuck and Kelly will also soon receive their Bolt so we’ll shortly be seeing a pair on our roads.
